The 2 Meter Rule

A variety of companies in the UK are experimenting with graphic iterations of the government advised 'two meter' social distancing.

This has led to an increased amount of experimental signage - offering zero coherence to the message.


Whilst generally, but not always, communication is reasonably aesthetically pleasing, the lack of consistency risks creating confusion for the end user. During this pandemic we cannot afford to waste any time to interpretation.

Tesco have created an improvised implementation, created using the existing in-store and trade signage available.


What if we created an iconic, standardised design language, easily accessible for use by all companies, big and small-?


The outcome is a mark which upholds the underlying message of instruction, whilst remaining soft and identifiable. Versatile and scalable, a symbol which could sit comfortably alongside existing exemplary signage, such as the 'fire exit' and 'no smoking' signs

Scalable 2m x 2m areas for families, 2m from others, for large venues.
